Welcome to the enrolment process at Ipswich Grammar School

By now you have either begun the enrolment process or are seriously considering our school for your family. Depending on the timing of your enrolment, this process can take anywhere from a few days to a few years. Either way, our aim is to make this journey as informative and as seamless as possible. Typically, most families will take a tour, enrol their son and then attend an interview with the School. This is followed by a Letter of Offer from the Headmaster and confirmation of the offer for your son.

So what happens next?

In the lead up to your son’s first day a lot of questions will start to surface and your son may feel a little anxious at times.

Our aim is to guide you through this process at a steady pace and provide you with the relevant information to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Students enrolled and confirmed before October will be invited to our Orientation Day. At this event, new students will be issued updated information for the following year:

Clothing and Uniform Requirements

Books and Stationery Requirements

Chartered Bus Fares

Prep

Starting Prep is a very exciting time for both boys and their family. This is especially so for your first son starting in ‘big’ school. For this reason, we like to offer personal tours of Junior School where you can meet the Head of Junior School, see the Prep classroom in action, and ultimately, ask as many questions as you need.

A personal tour gives you and your son the freedom and time to really get to know how we work with our boys and to see what makes us different to other schools. I highly recommend that parents take a tour of Prep and then to compliment this by attending our other Prep orientated events for further information.

At Ipswich Grammar School we firmly believe that the transition into ‘big’ school should not only be exciting for young boys, but also to be smooth and informative for parents.

Year 7 Transition Program

This program is designed for new Year 7 students coming to IGS as well as our existing Year 6 boys who are transitioning into Secondary School. The program includes a Parent Information Evening hosted by the Head of Year 7 who will conduct a tour and present on topics such as expectations of Year 7.
