From the Chair of the Board – 17th Headmaster of Ipswich Grammar School

Adam Forsyth

It is my great pleasure to announce the Board of Trustees has appointed Dr Adam Forsyth as the 17th Headmaster of Ipswich Grammar School to commence at the beginning of Term 4 2024, following the retirement of Mr Richard Morrison in July next year.

The history of Ipswich Grammar School has seen only 16 others tasked with leading our great school in 160 years. It is a history Adam is very familiar with as an IGS Old Boy himself.

Currently serving as the Principal of St Michael’s Collegiate in Hobart, Adam brings a wealth of experience and a deep family connection to IGS that dates back over a century. Adam’s educational philosophy centres on fostering a holistic learning environment that nurtures character, academic excellence and a sense of community.

This approach has been developed over decades in teaching and learning, pastoral care, boarding, staff and community sectors. His previous leadership roles include Deputy Headmaster at The Hutchins School; Head of Senior School at St Peters Lutheran College; Director of Boarding and Senior Housemaster and Dean of Studies at Brisbane Boys’ College; and Deputy Director of the Summer School at Concord College in Shropshire, England.

Adam holds a PhD in Science from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), a Master of Educational Studies from the University of Queensland, as well as Bachelor degrees in Applied Science and Education from QUT; he is also a Member of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders.

As we transition over the coming months, the Board and Richard will continue to focus on our strategy and the day-to-day business of educating our boys - always striving for exceptional performance in everything we do.

As I have said previously, Richard has developed leaders at all levels throughout the school which will hold Adam in good stead as he begins his tenure as the 17th Headmaster of Ipswich Grammar School.

I know our community will join with me in welcoming Adam, his wife Megan and their three children Rosie, Alec and Selwyn back to Ipswich to lead our great school.
