The month of December was big for Ipswich Grammar School and our students. It was pleasing to receive the latest Naplan data, demonstrating how our excellent and consistent approach we have taken since beginning our Explicit Teaching journey in 2016 has paid off. In Year 5 and Year 9, boys were publicly recognised for their outstanding achievements across the board. Our Year 5 boys achieved second place in Queensland for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, our Year 9 boys landed in the top 10 of secondary schools.
Complementing our wonderful Naplan results was Class 162’s excellent ATAR results. 94% achieved an ATAR above 80.00, with the median ATAR of 91.35. It was great to see we had 13 boys achieve an ATAR above 98. A special congratulations must go to our Dux, Dishane Ratnayake, who also achieved a Subject Achievement Commendation from QCAA for achieving 100% in Specialist Mathematics, and a special congratulations to the eight of boys who achieved As in all their subjects. These are truly outstanding results for IGS across our entire school.
It was exciting to see the QTAC offers come out mid-January. Management and Commerce were the most popular study areas with 32% of boys accepting offers into courses which range from Bachelor of Business/Law, Business-International, and Property Economics. The second most popular study areas were Engineering and Health, both attracting 20% each of boys pathway options. These courses ranged from Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Clinical Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Medicine, Speech Pathology and the list include courses like Veterinary Science, Law, Politics, Economics, Mathematics, Architecture, and Creative Arts.
A lot of the time, with the busyness of the end of the year and the relaxed holiday period, the success and hard work which has been put in to get each boy the success they had hoped for in their course of choice passes by. However, when you look at the list of career choices it is exciting to see what lies ahead for each of these boys as they step into their next chapter.
