Subject Selection Form Y9
The middle years of schooling at IGS give boys the opportunity to learn and grow in ways that are responsive to the needs of early adolescents. Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are taking the journey from boys to young men.

Ipswich Grammar School implements strategies to ensure the educational, emotional and physical transition for each boy is as smooth as possible. These years can be a time of turbulence as they face demands that quite often do not coincide with their level of intellectual and emotional development.

Across Years 7, 8 and 9 there is an emphasis on identity relationships, purpose, success, rigour, teamwork and safety. A seamless curriculum ensures there is a smooth transition between primary and senior school.

The academic program is intellectually challenging and empowers young men to learn. The provision of a supportive environment with a broad offering of subjects, structured literacy programs and enrichment activities assists students in productive learning. The curriculum is learner centred, collaboratively organised, flexibly structured and well resourced.

Through cross-curricular initiatives, structured reading strategies, writers' camps, Writer in Residence programs and literacy competitions and workshops, boys become interested readers and confident and skilled communicators.

Through our Outdoor Education Program, emotional resilience, problem-solving and team skills are developed, and boys are encouraged to challenge themselves. Activities include camping, abseiling, rock climbing, expedition planning, first aid, cookery and leadership.

The Lifeskills Program encompasses age-related issues confronting boys as they move through their early adolescence towards manhood.
