Opened on 25 September 1863, Ipswich Grammar has the honour of being Queensland's first secondary school. For generation after generation, this fine school has produced distinguished citizens, innovators and leaders in the fields of politics, engineering, education, literature, military, science, music, medicine, law, sport, commerce and industry.
Established under the Grammar Schools Act and administered by a Board of Trustees, Ipswich Grammar School has a reputation for leadership, innovation and academic achievement.
The pioneering spirit which led to the establishment of IGS spans three centuries and continues to be fuelled by our understanding of the dynamics of change and our passion for excellence.
Our Lifeskills Program is part of every student's weekly timetable from Years 1-12 and covers protective behaviours, safety, friendships, stress and time management, the role of families, resilience, conflict resolution, gender issues, sexuality, drug education, mental health, and the transition from secondary school to the world of work, careers and tertiary education.
With full-time counsellors and staff in the student services department, programs are developed to enhance the strengths and overcome the weaknesses of individual students. Students have the opportunity to participate in a gifted and talented program in the student support centre with specialised resource teachers.
