Community > Old Boys' Association
On 25 July 1907, the first
meeting of the Ipswich Grammar School Old Boys' Association took place
in the Hughes and Cameron Rooms, Brisbane Street, Ipswich. At this meeting
the objectives of the association were declared to be:
To strengthen the bond between the school and its Old Boys.
To foster in adult life a true spirit of culture and good fellowship.
To support any movement of intellectual effort.
These three ideals continue to motivate the association.
The first president was TB Cribb, one of the first 16 boys to
be enrolled at the school. Wilfred Phillips, sub-editor of The Queensland
Times newspaper, when asked to write about the association
in the Centenary booklet produced in 1963, said: "Its benefactions
have ranged from pine trees to paint, from bursaries to baths, and from
libraries to lights."
These comments apply even today. As you look around the
school and marvel at the huge expansion that has taken place since 1863
and note the school's academic and sporting achievements, the members
of the Old Boys' Association are proud to have been able to make a
contribution to it all.
IGS is a family school and the Ipswich Grammar School
Old Boys' Association is proud to be part of that family.
