Anybody can run however, to run Cross Country well requires commitment, perseverance, courage and great depth of character. It is these attributes that IGS Cross Country staff seek to instil in the boys at IGS.
The IGS Cross Country season begins in earnest with the Inter-house carnival held early in Term 2 at the Brassall Sports Grounds. The race is completed entirely within the school owned facility. It is always successful with a very high participation rate and many strong performances.
Following this carnival boys and staff begin the long journey towards the GPS Cross Country which is run in early August. There are three race distances for the GPS Cross Country competition. The 13 year olds run 3Km, the 14 and 15 year olds run 4Km and the 16s and Opens run a 6km race. The GPS Cross Country day is held locally at Limestone Park on a challenging and hilly course.
Throughout Term 2 and into Term 3 the boys will train meticulously and tirelessly to ensure that they are ready for that one GPS day. Training sessions are provided after school, at Brassall and occasionally at Limestone Park. Runners are also encouraged to participate in a regular Saturday races at Limestone Park.
IGS produces many fine runners who regularly represent the school at District, Regional, State and National titles.
